The ER317L alloy is specifically formulated with higher levels of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, plus an addition of columbium for superior stability. This composition gives it outstanding resistance to corrosion, particularly against sulfuric acid and other aggressive chemicals. It meets strict AWS standards, offering excellent mechanical properties including good tensile strength and ductility. The low carbon content of the “L” grade is key, as it significantly reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, helping to prevent corrosion in the heat-affected zone and ensuring long-lasting performance.
